erbena opened in 2021 with a single chair in Tempe and has since grown into a full-service salon and spa in Ahwatukee, returning owner Mateo to the neighborhood where he first put down roots. What began as a small studio has become a welcoming space for hair, skincare, and waxing, built around connection, care, and the feeling of a home away from home.
The name “Verbena” is woven through our story. It’s the street Mateo grew up on in Ahwatukee, a word with origins meaning “sacred plant,” and the name of the botanical shop owned by the Owens sisters in Practical Magic, one of our favorite films. For us, it represents home, ritual, and the belief that beauty and sustainability can, and should, live side by side.
Verbena exists to serve our community as a space to renew oneself, feel beautiful, and connect with others. We want every visit to feel cozy and unhurried, like a small vacation from the pace of everyday life. For us, luxury isn’t about pretense; it’s the quiet details: the way we listen, the care we put into each service, and the commitment our team makes to continual education and high standards.
Our salon offers hair, skincare, and waxing services, with a focus on vegetarian treatment haircolor, haircare rituals, and transformative skincare. From a fresh cut or color to a restorative facial or thoughtful hair removal service, each appointment is designed to support your natural features and your overall well-being.
A culture of compassion guides how we do everything, how we treat our guests, how we treat each other, and how we show up in our wider community. Our approach to inclusivity includes non-gendered pricing, no upcharging for different hair types, and an internal growth structure that removes subjectivity from promotions. We are an equal opportunity employer, and our salon is ADA accessible.
Sustainability is a core part of who we are. We partner with Davines, [comfort zone], and Berodin, and we prioritize Slow Food ingredients, refill options where possible, and low-waste practices behind the scenes. Davines Group (including [comfort zone]) is a certified B Corp, aligning our everyday work with a broader commitment to social and environmental responsibility.
If you’re looking for a place where you can feel cared for, seen, and genuinely at ease, we’d love to welcome you in and help you plan your first visit to Verbena.
